What Is TMJ Therapy?
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the hinge where your lower jaw connects to your skull, allowing it to open and close comfortably. Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) is a condition that occurs when this joint becomes damaged, causing jaw pain, stiffness, bruxism (teeth grinding), and clicking or popping when you open or close your mouth. At Suite 905, we provide TMJ therapy using BOTOX®, a popular injectable treatment that directly targets the jaw muscles responsible for TMD. While you've probably heard of BOTOX being used for cosmetic purposes, it can also provide effective relief for TMD by relaxing overactive jaw muscles and reducing involuntary clenching and grinding. With just a few BOTOX injections at our New York, NY practice, you can enjoy comfort that lasts for months. If you're experiencing headaches, jaw pain, or other symptoms of TMD, we invite you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Svetlana Orit Faradjewa or Dr. Sheila Faradjewa at Suite 905 to learn if you're a candidate for BOTOX TMJ treatments.
How Does BOTOX for TMJ Work?
During your initial visit to our New York, NY office, we'll perform a comprehensive examination of your mouth and jaw, capturing detailed x-rays and 3D scans to get the clearest picture of your oral health. During this time, we'll also learn more about your medical history and determine if BOTOX is the best choice for your TMD treatment. The actual injections are quick and comfortable, taking just 15 – 30 minutes as we inject the BOTOX formula into key areas around your jaw, including into the masseter, temporalis, and pterygoid muscles. Most patients start to notice a reduction in TMJ pain and other symptoms within a few days of their treatment, but the full results may take up to two weeks to develop. Results typically last 3 – 4 months, at which point we can schedule a follow-up visit if you start to notice symptoms of TMD again.
What Are the Benefits of BOTOX for TMJ?
Even if you aren't experiencing jaw pain, TMD can lead to long-term health consequences if left untreated. With BOTOX injections at our New York, NY office, you can enjoy lasting relief from TMD symptoms with benefits that include:
- Relieves jaw pain and tension by relaxing overactive muscles
- Reduces teeth grinding (bruxism) and associated enamel wear
- Minimizes headaches and migraines caused by jaw strain
- Improves jaw mobility by decreasing muscle stiffness
- Prevents jaw locking by reducing excessive muscle contractions
- Provides long-lasting relief with effects lasting 3 – 4 months
- Minimally invasive alternative to more aggressive TMJ treatments
Suite 905 Reviews
One of the best dentist experiences I’ve had. She made me feel so informed and comfortable. Would definitely recommend!!
I can’t recommend Dr. Orit Faradjewa enough! She is truly a phenomenal dentist. She is so kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. From the moment you walk into her office, you feel comfortable and well taken care of. I had a very complicated crown procedure, and she handled it with such skill and care. She took the time to explain everything clearly, made sure I was comfortable throughout the process, and the results were excellent. Her professionalism, attention to detail, and warm personality really set her apart. I only have the best things to say about her and her practice. Highly recommend!
