What Is Guided biofilm therapy?
A professional dental cleaning removes bacterial biofilm, plaque, and hardened deposits that brushing and flossing alone cannot fully eliminate.
At Suite 905, we use Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) with EMS AIRFLOW® technology to make preventive care more precise, comfortable, and minimally invasive. The process begins by identifying areas of biofilm, then gently removing those deposits from the teeth, along the gumline, and around restorations or orthodontic appliances.
Compared with a traditional cleaning that may rely more heavily on polishing paste and hand scaling, GBT is designed to target biofilm systematically while preserving healthy tooth structure and improving patient comfort.
Dr. Svetlana Orit Faradjewa and Dr. Sheila Faradjewa use GBT as part of a personalized preventive approach for patients in Midtown East and throughout Manhattan.
The goal is not simply to make your teeth feel clean — it is to support healthier gums, reduce disease-causing biofilm, and help prevent future dental problems.
How Does a GBT Dental Cleaning Work?
Before starting your dental cleaning procedure, we'll examine your mouth to check for visible problems we may need to address. After this, we'll start the Guided Biofilm Therapy by applying a special dye to your teeth and gums that highlights plaque and biofilm, letting us know which areas need more attention during your cleaning. The next step is AirFlow® therapy, which uses a fine jet of warm water, air, and powder to gently remove the biofilm, early tartar deposits, and surface stains from teeth, braces, implants, and restorations. After that, we'll use ultrasonic tools to remove any remaining tartar before polishing the enamel for a brighter appearance. The dental cleaning process usually takes about 30 – 60 minutes, depending on your oral health and how much tartar and plaque buildup is present. Once we're finished, we'll talk about any areas where biofilm accumulated and share tips to help you maintain a healthier smile between cleanings.
What Are the Benefits of guided biofilm therapy?
Even with excellent brushing and flossing at home, bacterial biofilm can remain in areas that are difficult to reach, particularly between the teeth, along the gumline, and around restorations or orthodontic appliances.
Guided Biofilm Therapy offers several advantages:
- Targets bacterial biofilm precisely using disclosing solution to identify areas that need attention
- Feels gentler and more comfortable than cleanings that rely heavily on scraping and polishing
- Uses warm water, which can be more comfortable for patients with sensitive teeth
- Reduces the need for unnecessary instrumentation by focusing treatment only where buildup is present
- Works well around braces, implants, crowns, and other restorations
- Helps remove surface stains from coffee, tea, and other common sources
- Provides useful feedback by showing patients where biofilm tends to accumulate
Guided Biofilm Therapy Reviews
I can’t say enough good things!! Wish I could give them ten stars!!
I wish I could give suit 905 more than 5 stars. The care here is unmatched! I felt so comfortable. I don’t even know where to start with the positives! Book an appointment! You won’t regret it!!
The doctor took her time to explain everything to me. I highly recommend this dental office to anybody who is looking for a dentist in midtown Manhattan.
Dr. Svetlana Orit Faradjewa is exceptional. She took the time to really understand what’s happening with my teeth, which have been under stress due to medication and sleep apnea (dry mouth). Instead of just fixing the immediate issue, she helped me think through a smart long-term strategy to protect and strengthen my dental health. Her approach is fresh, modern, and holistic. She’s clearly fully up to date on the newest dental technologies, and her suite is equipped with the best of the best. What impressed me most is the level of personal attention. She makes you feel like you’re her only patient. A true A-to-Z expertise with a thoughtful long-term perspective. I’m genuinely looking forward to bringing my kids to her practice this April.
